Is Nokia Lumia a really good Windows Phone?

Nokia Lumia is the Finnish mobile maker’s famous Windows Phone handset series. The official hardware partner of Microsoft has so far revealed a handful of Lumia phones. The question whether Nokia Lumia phones are good Windows Phone handsets is significant since many other tech firms also produce handsets on Widows Phone. Leading tech makers like Samsung and HTC also have launched new phones with Windows Phone. So, it is a bit interesting to have a look at whether Lumia is something unique over its rivals.

This is Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 phone. Did I say that right ?

Well well, what do we have here. Its Mr. Stephen Elop asking everyone to switch off their cameras and other recording devices to show a brand new device. This is how he began and of course nobody was going to listen and here we are with the first pics of a working Nokia Windows Phone and a video as well. Meet the Nokia N9, the first and probably last MeeGo device from Nokia.

Nokia has finally unveiled its much anticipated MeeGo based Smartphone, the N9. It is an impressively device with a sophisticated touch interface and open source underpinnings. This is a worthy successor to the N900(another MeeGo device from Nokia for Developers) ,which was more developer-centric, while the N9 is more mainstream. Nokia is all set to get into a new gear with their Nokia Connection event to be held on June 21st in conjunction with CommunicAsia ’2011. The event generally highlights Nokia’s current strategy , new devices and things to come. So what are we expecting ? A new Windows Phone 7 handset, of course. We don’t have any confirmation on that, but sources tell us that we might expect the first Nokia WP7 handset at this event.

The event is aptly titled “Unveiling The Next Chapter”. Let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed !

Microsoft may enter talks to buy Nokia’s Mobile Division

First of all, this is a rumor. There has been no official statement from either party. But there seems to be some shred of truth to this news if we look at the source, Eldar Murtazin, who has shown a knack of finding all things Nokia in the past. It was him who had brought to the forefront Nokia’s departure from Symbian and collaboration with Microsoft over Windows Phone 7, at a point when all this seemed impossible. Survival ain’t cheap: Microsoft to pay ‘more than $1 billion’ to Nokia for making Windows Phones.

Bloomberg has reported with reference of “two people with knowledge of the terms” that something in excess of $1 billion is flowing from Redmond to Espoo. Though the deal isn’t yet finalized it’d apparently call for Microsoft to pay out at least some of the cash upfront with Nokia sending cash in the other direction for WP7 device licenses.

Nokia Windows Phone 7 Concept revealed

Its just been days since the sad(not !) demise of Symbian and just going through our various sources we came across these concept designs for the elusive Nokia Windows Phone 7. On first look these devices don’t differ much from the present N8. But have a thinner profile.Now we understand what Steve Ballmer meant when he said that the engineers of both companies have “spent a lot of time on this already.” More pics after the break.
