Instagram just came to Android, and you thought that was the big news. Out of nowhere came Facebook and bought Instagram for $1 Billion in cash and stock. Instagram will remain a standalone app for now, but Facebook will incorporate deeper ties with the service. More after the break.

It seems like an odd move to launch a last gen iPhone midway in the launch cycle, especially when we are looking at a refresh pretty soon. But we all know once the white iPhone 4 hits the shelves it would be out of stock as if it was never there.
Remember way back when the sun used to shine bright and I had near perfect sight. Of course you do, it was June last year. Roundabout the same time Apple announced the White iPhone4. Its been a year or so and still there’s no sign of the once fabled white iPhone. So what happened to it ? did Apple get disheartened by the reception issues of its black counterpart or was it something else ? Keep reading to know whether its ever going to make a comeback.
It was already on the cards, but now, to be absolutely sure nobody misses them, we have a countdown! Eager iPhone bandwagon jumpers will have to stay up till 3AM EST on February 3rd to get their orders in from a “reserved quantity” of handsets, which will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis — presumably to be delivered on that February 10th launch date everyone’s been anticipating for so long. Sadly for Verizon newcomers, a contract with the network will be a prerequisite for signing up when the countdown expires.
The hardware guru, Mark Papermaster may not have felt comfortable in his very short span of one year and four months as as Apple’s SVP of Devices Hardware Engineering and finally he called it quits. Though the rumormill was ablaze with the news that this was a result of the recent antenna issues with the new iPhone 4. It was slated that he was the brain behind the new radical design of the External Antenna. The New York Times reports that Papermaster has left and Bob Mansfeld (SVP of Mac Engineering) will assume his role. So far, there’s been no official statement as to why the departure is occurring, whether he was ousted or left of his own volition (again, though he oversaw the new iPhone, his background is in processor design) but either way, the former SVP’s picture and bio have already been removed from Apple’s website. The man himself reportedly refused to comment when contacted by the Times, but as with all truths we’re sure this one will come out eventually.

We were holding our breath for the press conference by Apple to formally put a closure over the much hyped and debated issue of the iPhone 4 antenna issues.
The press conference began with Steve Jobs(who else !) coming up on stage with oodles of data showcasing how this much hyped reception issue isn’t an iPhone 4 exclusive. Without revealing dropped call related statistics (which AT&T wasn’t keen to divulge due to competitive concerns) Jobs went on to reveal numbers that make the iPhone 4 seem a victim of bad press. Here are some of the important points that Jobs emphasized upon during the course of the conference.
Steve Jobs also took this opportunity to claim that even their competitors’ phones including the likes of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, HTC Droid Eris, and Samsung Omnia II can be affected by this left handed grip issue. Jobs showed pictures of the phenomenon which can be viewed at the source link.
That said, Apple will also give away free Bumper cases to users who would want one. This is because the case apparently solves the “non-existant” reception issue. For those of you who already spent your money on the case, there is a refund coming your way. Still not happy? There’s more. Apple is also offering a full refund on your phone if you return your iPhone within 30 days of purchase. This one isn’t actually a new offer. Apple had earlier announced this in their earlier “Letter regarding the iPhone 4″ release on July 2.
