An email sent to Microsoft employees debunks rumors that the next-gen XBOX Durango or Xbox 720 will not require an always on internet connection for games to be played. The following email was sent to the XBOX team:
Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet. There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.
The email confirms many of the rumors as well, that the next-gen XBOX will have a Blu-Ray drive and will also function as a cable box. We’ll finally know for sure when Microsoft unveils the next XBOX at Redmond on May 21st.
