Microsoft’s email service Outlook as well its counterpart Hotmail has been out for more than 12 hours, with no sign of coming back up again for many users. Although its not a total service disruption as some users are able to use the services, many have reported that they are unable to use Skydrive as well as Calendar apps. In today’s world where we virtually live in the cloud, a service disruption of this magnitude is simple not acceptable, that too from a company that prides itself on its Azure cloud computing platform.
Even if we check the current status of Microsoft’s services on its status page, you’ll find that Outlook and Hotmail are still experiencing problems. This cannot be more ill-timed for Microsoft, when its spending millions in promoting Outlook.com as an alternative to GMail. Microsoft has promised a service update within the hour and we’ll update this post as soon as we get some answers.
Microsoft has fixed the issues with Hotmail and Outlook services and now its status page is showing green across the board. Such disruptions again bring the same debate back into focus, are we ready to live in the Cloud ?
