Android Police was able to get hands on an upcoming upgrade to the Gmail app for android. The new version Gmail 4.2 is going to come with a bunch of new features and be a major update from Google. Lets watch a video showing its new features.

First feature is swipe to delete/archive, just like you do with your notifications. Google has made this feature configurable in the new app through its settings where you can change swipes to “No effect”, “Archive or delete” or “Always Delete.” The default option is “Archive or delete” i.e. will archive swiped messages when you’re in the inbox, delete swiped messages when you’re in All Mail or Sent, and remove a label when you’re in a label-only view.

Another new feature is the one we all have been waiting for, finally Gmail will have pinch to zoom for your e-mails for better visibility and larger text.

The best part is that the unreleased Gmail v4.2 apk is now available for download from Android Police, you can follow the instruction to install the apk from the source, the only caveat is that it requires your phone to be rooted with Android 4.0+.
