Microsoft Surface passes the litmus test, first lot gets sold out

Microsoft started accepting pre-orders for its Surface with Windows RT tablet with a starting price of $499 for the 32GB base model without touch cover. Moving up the chain you have the $599 Surface with black touch cover and the 64GB $699 tablet also with the black touch cover. If you want a colorful option instead, you can buy a separate Touch Cover for $120 in white, cyan, magenta or red. Apart from this the Type Cover also went for pre-order for $130. The first lot of the pre-orders which would have shipped by October 26 have already been sold and now the site is showing a 3 week wait for the tablet to arrive.

Reports suggest that Microsoft has ordered about 5 million Surface tablets to be manufactured for the holiday season, seeing the initial rush would surely be a good sign for the software giant.
