Its been one year since the departure of Steve Jobs. He has been missed, both at Apple and by the people, for his charismatic presence and leadership. Apple has posted a video on it’s homepage showing images of him and the products he created that, quite literally, changed the way we use computers and mobile devices.
Steve Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Although many of us are aware of his legacy at Apple, for those who don’t he founded Apple in 1976, and was pushed out of the company in 1985, and returned to the company when it was in serious trouble in 1997 to make it the most valuable tech company in the world. Apple CEO, Tim Cook too has written some words about what Steve Jobs meant to him, Apple and the inspiration he will continue to be for the company.
Here’s the complete letter:
A message from Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO
Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.
One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.
I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It’s a wonderful tribute to Steve’s memory and everything he stood for.
