Youtube has added a new feature, rolling out today that blurs all faces in a video and also lets you delete the original video. This will let users upload videos of activists without getting them into trouble, report events without the fear of identification and allow anonymous voices to be heard without the fear of repercussions. It has been noted that Youtube is becoming an ever increasing source of news and videos of several important events. Politically Youtube has been used for campaigning as well. Youtube policy associate Amanda Conway rightly points out that this feature will allow “people to share personal footage more widely and to speak out when they otherwise may not.” Although Google has acknowledged this is a work in progress, and some frames or faces might be missed and hence has issued a fair advice for users to keep sensitive videos private.
