So what’s on your calender for October 26 ? Nothing yet, so how about a date with Windows 8. Yes folks, that’s the date Microsoft has chosen for the general availability of Windows 8. The announcement was made at Microsoft’s annual sales meeting by President of Windows Division at Microsoft, Steven Sinofsky, and follows months of speculation. We had heard at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference recently that an end of October release date was planned and now we have the final date.
Windows 8 is probably the most radical re-design of the world’s most popular operating system till date. Although the Consumer and Release Previews got mixed reviews, Windows 8 has found a lot of support from partners as well as a great push from Microsoft in the form of Surface Tablets. It is evident from the sudden decline in PC purchases that everyone is waiting for the release of Windows 8 to buy new PC’s, which is a great sign for Microsoft. With the new OS, Microsoft is pushing its touch focussed Metro UI into Windows. What remains to be seen if it will ever be such a huge success that Windows 7 is or a nightmare that Vista was.
